João Gião was sacked from the helm of Nacional after just four rounds of the I Liga. The news was first reported by Record newspaper and has already been confirmed by DIÁRIO. The coach did not have time to recover his position, despite the dismissal occurring after only one month of competition.
The two consecutive defeats set off alarms at the black-and-white club. This poor run of form precipitated the board's decision, who did not want to wait for more negative results before acting.
The decisive outcome came after Sunday's defeat against Estrela da Amadora, 2-3, in a match from the 4th round of the I Liga. This result is said to have influenced President Rui Alves' decision to proceed with the dismissal that very same night.
With this dismissal, João Gião becomes the first coach to leave command of an I Liga team this season, marking a troubled start to the season for Nacional.
