Free Netflix? Platform admits plan without monthly fee, but with ads

SAPO Notícias31 August 2026 at 16:53

Netflix publicly admitted the possibility of offering a free plan, but with ads. The information was confirmed by Greg Peters, co-CEO of the platform, during a conversation with investors in July.

The company acknowledged that exploring a model with advertising support is one of the options to expand its user base. Greg Peters indicated that Netflix is open to studying different subscription formats.

The platform has faced a decline in the number of subscribers in recent months, which led the company to consider alternatives to maintain growth. The introduction of ads could attract users who are not willing to pay the full subscription price.

Details about when or how this plan could be implemented have not yet been revealed. Netflix already has competitors like Disney+ and HBO Max that offer ad-supported options at lower prices.
