Six people were detained and 38 children were rescued in operations to combat child exploitation carried out in northern Mozambique. The operation resulted in the liberation of minors who were in situations of vulnerability and exploitation.
The children were found in two different locations: at the Malema railway station and on an agricultural production farm in the region. These locations were identified as points where the minors were being exploited, possibly in labor activities unsuitable for their age.
Mozambican authorities carry out periodic operations to combat child labor and the exploitation of children in the country. Northern Mozambique has been one of the regions where these practices have been identified most frequently.
The detainees now face judicial procedures related to child exploitation crimes. The rescued children will be referred to protection services and appropriate follow-up according to their needs.
