Entrepreneur and influencer Dan Cunha, 42 years old, reignited a discussion on social media about how to distinguish situations of xenophobia from the natural difficulties of adapting to a new country. A Brazilian established in the United States, Dan has lived outside Brazil for 25 years and has also lived in England and Australia. He is a participant in the program "Immigrant Reality," where he shares his experience as an immigrant.
In a recently published video, Dan argued that not every negative experience lived by an immigrant can be attributed to prejudice. At the same time, he acknowledges that xenophobia exists and must be identified and reported when it occurs. The influencer thus seeks a balance between not trivializing real cases of discrimination and not automatically attributing adaptation difficulties to racism.
When recalling his own migration process, Dan shared that he started working in cleaning in the United States and that "housekeeping" was one of the first words he learned in English. His initial work experience in humble positions reflects the practical challenges faced by many immigrants when arriving in a new country.
