A family gathering ended in tragedy at a condominium in the city of Albuquerque, in New Mexico, United States, on Thursday (8/27). Ervin Joaquin Gutierrez, 22, was arrested on suspicion of homicide after killing his cousin Nathaniel Cavazos, 25, during a discussion about the spiciness of peppers in a green enchiladas dish.
According to a statement obtained by NBC News, the two men and a third cousin spent the afternoon together buying food to cook. The atmosphere, which should have been harmonious, became hostile when Gutierrez began to insist, repeatedly, that the pepper used in his dish was spicier than the one in Nathaniel's dish.
The cousin, in turn, argued that everyone was eating the same food and that there would be no difference in seasoning. Also according to the testimony, there was an attempt to defuse the situation, with the suggestion of a walk with a dog. The solution didn't work, and the discussion evolved into a physical fight outside the condo.
