ADN proposes that the Republic ensure 75% of the public compensation for the ferry

dnoticias.pt31 August 2026 at 12:49

The ADN party demands that the process for the ferry connection between Madeira and mainland Portugal be carried out through an international tender, with transparent accounts. This position arises within the context of the debate on the future of maritime transport between the autonomous region and the mainland.

According to the party, the Autonomous Region of Madeira may assume up to 25% of the annual net compensation for the ferry service. This proposal would allow preserving at least 200 million euros, at 2026 prices, to meet the remaining regional responsibilities.

Maíza Fernandes, on behalf of ADN, proposes that the ferry connection be guaranteed as a public service of territorial continuity throughout the year. This position aims to ensure the maintenance of an essential connection for the mobility of residents in the autonomous region.

The party justifies its proposal with the need to guarantee the financial sustainability of the Autonomous Region, while ensuring the maintenance of a service considered fundamental for the Madeiran population.
