Rescue teams continue search for survivors in hydroelectric plant tunnels in Nepal

Sábado31 August 2026 at 11:40

Rescue teams continue on Monday the work to find missing people in hydroelectric plants that were flooded due to a flash flood. The operation is taking place in the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts in Nepal.

Approximately 900 people are believed to be missing in at least 12 hydroelectric plants in these two districts. Local authorities have not yet been able to confirm the exact number of victims.

The tunnels of the hydroelectric plants were completely flooded by the flash flood, which significantly hinders the rescue work. The teams are trying to locate survivors in the underground areas of the facilities.

Nepal has been facing adverse weather conditions that caused this flood in the mountainous regions of the country, especially affecting the infrastructure of the hydroelectric plants.
