According to INE data released today, the unemployment rate remained at 5.7% in July, the Portuguese economy grew 2.5% in the second quarter year-on-year and inflation rose to 3.3% in August, driven mainly by rising fuel prices. The employed population reached 5.347 million people and the inactivity rate fell to 29.6%, the lowest value since February 1998. GDP grew 0.8% compared to the first quarter, with net external demand being decisive for this acceleration. At the same time, the tourist accommodation sector recorded 46.5 million overnight stays in the first seven months of the year, an increase of 1.5%, and total revenues of 4,073.2 million euros.
