A Spanish tourist died in the early hours of this Monday as a result of a fire at a hotel in Fatima. The fatal victim is a woman around 60 years old, part of a group of Spanish nationality that was staying at the hotel. The fire was contained to one room of the hotel unit.
According to the Sub-regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Médio Tejo, the alert for the fire reached authorities at 00:39 and the fire was extinguished at 01:06. The fire forced the evacuation of 53 people from the hotel unit.
Responding to the scene were units from the volunteer firefighters of Fatima and Ourém, the National Institute of Medical Emergency, the National Republican Guard and the Judicial Police, with a total of 28 operatives and 10 vehicles.
The authorities are investigating the causes of the fire.
