PSP issued a public alert about fraudulent messages circulating via SMS, email and phone calls, in which scammers impersonate collection entities. These communications inform victims about alleged unpaid debts, trying to get them to act urgently and make payments without verifying the truthfulness of the information.
The police warns that anyone who receives this type of contact should not be in a hurry to pay and should be immediately suspicious. The scammers' goal is precisely to create a sense of urgency so that victims do not have time to verify the legitimacy of the debt.
This type of fraudulent collection scheme targets ordinary citizens who, faced with an apparently official communication, may be misled and make undue payments. PSP recommends that sources always be verified and that the supposedly creditor entities be contacted directly through official channels before making any decision.
