The Association for the Promotion and Development of the Information Society (APDSI) presented a Portuguese proposal to the United Nations to add new rules to the UN Charter. The main objective of this initiative is to protect States from the problems that artificial intelligence is creating globally.
The proposal addresses several problematic areas, including the issue of taxation related to artificial intelligence and algorithmic manipulation of public opinion. These are identified as concrete threats that States currently face with the advancement of AI technologies.
The Portuguese initiative is advancing, representing an effort to adapt the international legal framework to contemporary technological realities. APDSI thus intends to create protection mechanisms that allow States to better deal with the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
