Santa Mônica Rede de Ensino made history in beach volleyball at the 44th edition of the Intercolegial O GLOBO/Sesc. On Saturday (29), at Sesc Nova Iguaçu, the school won its first women's title in the sport. On Sunday (30), it returned to the top of the podium in the men's category, securing the fifth championship.
The competition was restricted to the non-federated under-18 category. In both finals, Santa Mônica defeated Pedro II 2 sets to 0, confirming the team's supremacy in both categories.
The Intercolegial is organized by GLOBO, with sponsorship from Sesc-RJ and support from Afya. The event features more than 530 students competing in the competitions.
In the women's category, Loide Martha opened the competition with a victory over Meninos da Luz 2-0, while Santa Mônica defeated Luz do Saber by the same score. CTUR also beat Geo Félix 2-0, and Pedro II defeated Loide Martha 2-0. Following that, Santa Mônica advanced by defeating opponents until reaching the final.
