The Guardia Civil intercepted a vessel suspected of being dedicated to transporting irregular immigrants off the coast of Cartagena, in the Murcia region. The intervention took place 12 nautical miles to the southeast of Monte de las Cenizas, within the Calblanque Regional Park.
The intercepted vessel was equipped with four engines, which suggests a high capacity for navigation and speed. The authorities have not yet reported how many immigrants were found on board the vessel.
The two patrones, meaning the captains and those responsible for the navigation of the vessel, were arrested by the Spanish authorities. The operation was conducted by the Guardia Civil as part of its coastal surveillance and irregular immigration combat duties.
The information was released by the Government delegate in Murcia, Francisco Lucas, who confirmed the intervention and the arrest of the two individuals responsible for the vessel.
