The Lisbon Stock Exchange opened Monday's session, August 31st, with a gain of 0.09% to 9,444.37 points. The biggest rises on the Portuguese stock exchange were recorded in Galp Energia, which advanced 1.44% to €21.13, in Banco Comercial Português with a rise of 0.49% to €1.12, and in Ibersol which gained 0.39% to €10.40. On the negative side, Mota-Engil fell 1.21% to €4.75, CTT dropped 0.61% to €6.56, and Corticeira Amorim lost 0.57% to €7.03.
Oil is trading significantly higher, with brent rising 4.25% to $89.78 and crude gaining 1.45% to $84.61. This rise is related to the attacks on Sunday, August 30th, between the United States and Iran, which occurred on Larak Island and at American bases located in Jordan. These attacks are joined by economic sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran.
The main European stock exchanges opened mostly in the green, with the exception of the German DAX index, which dropped 0.45% to 26,462.47 points, and the Dutch AEX, which fell 0.04% to 1,111.80 points. The French CAC 40 rose 0.31% to 8,427.10 points, the British FTSE 100 gained 0.29% to 10,824.26 points, the Spanish IBEX 35 appreciated 0.06% to 20,073.74 points, and the Italian FTSE MIB added 0.22% to 52,734.00 points.
In the foreign exchange market, the euro rose 0.09% against the dollar to $1.15949, but fell 0.01% against the pound to £0.85591.
