Listed companies on the PSI recorded record profits of 3.6 billion euros in the first half of the year, a growth of 20% compared to the previous record set in 2024. Among the 15 companies that have already released results, Galp stood out with a 44% increase in profits to 812 million euros, while EDP Renováveis nearly doubled its net profit to 184 million euros. BCP, EDP and Galp accounted for more than one third of the growth, although analysts warn about the cyclical nature of some of these gains.
Portugal recorded the highest real estate price appreciation among the economies analyzed by the Bank for International Settlements, with a year-on-year rise of 15.2% in the first quarter. This evolution contrasts with the global trend, where house prices fell 1.2%, while in the Eurozone they increased by only 2.6%. Among advanced economies, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom showed the largest declines.
Around three thousand newly graduated nurses will receive their professional titles this summer that allow them to practice the profession, but face difficulties in securing stable contracts with the SNS due to the lack of approval of organizational development plans for 2026. The Order of Nurses warns that the delay is worsening the shortage of professionals in local health units, while many newly qualified graduates are starting to look for opportunities in the private sector or abroad, where salaries can be two to three times higher.
The National Unit for Foreigners and Borders of the PSP detained 713 people in the first 12 months of activity, controlling approximately 19.7 million passengers since August 2025. Some 428 cases of false documents or arrest warrants were detected, while enforcement operations resulted in another 285 detentions. The structure, with approximately 1,500 police officers, also carried out 5,397 inspection operations that covered more than 52,000 foreigners and generated 831 notifications for voluntary departure from Portugal.
