Nepal buries dead from avalanche and search for over 4 thousand missing

On Monday, Nepal buried some of the hundreds of bodies recovered after an avalanche, similar to a tsunami, hit the Himalayan region, leaving more than 900 dead and thousands missing. Desperate families filled rescue centers and hospitals searching for their missing relatives.

Others faced the sad task of identifying bodies in overcrowded morgues. The latest count from Nepalese authorities reported that at least 903 people died and 4,247 remain missing in the devastated area near the border with China.

The enormous wave of ice, rocks and debris that hit villages and cities on Wednesday caused massive destruction in the region. The tragedy also exposed decades of dispute between China and Tibet, as pointed out in the coverage on autonomy and identity of the Dalai Lama.
