O PÚBLICO traveled 3,200 kilometers, from Stettin to Trieste, on a journey across Europe to discover the traces that remain of the Iron Curtain. The route crossed eight countries and sought to investigate what remains of this historical division that separated Europe for decades.
This work was presented in an episode of the Hoje program, where conversation was held with Álvaro Vieira, the journalist responsible for the journey. Vieira shared the experience of traveling this route that crosses the former boundary between Eastern and Western Europe.
The journey from Stettin to Trieste followed the path of the old border that divided Europe during the Cold War. The objective was to understand how the physical and symbolic traces of the Iron Curtain still mark the territories and the populations that inhabit them.
Álvaro Vieira's journalistic work made it possible to document the current state of the locations that were symbols of European division, offering a perspective on the memory and legacy of this border that separated nations and people for over forty years.
