Correios on track to end the year with worst result in history

Correios is on track to end the year with the worst result in its history, according to government information. The expectation is that the loss will surpass the record loss of R$ 8.5 billion recorded in 2025. The state-owned company is undergoing a restructuring process that has been ongoing for months.

In the first half of this year, the company's loss increased 30.4% compared to the same period last year, totaling R$ 5.5 billion. The state-owned company reported that the second quarter results were better, with a loss of R$ 2.4 billion, a value 5.5% lower than the first quarter.

In the 2027 budget bill proposal sent to Congress, the government guaranteed a R$ 6 billion injection for Correios next year, signaling that the crisis is still far from over. The billion-dollar figure represents a significant infusion of federal resources into the state-owned company.

The government argues that Correios will return to profit in 2027, indicating that the planned injection is intended to enable the company's financial recovery. The current situation contrasts with the optimistic projections of the management for the coming years.
