The direct losses from the migratory crisis in Ceuta amount to 33 million euros, representing a devastating economic impact for the Spanish enclave. The crisis caused an abrupt drop in the economic activity of the region.
The tourism sector was the most affected, having "sunk and dragged with it" the rest of the local economy. Usual tourist demand registered a drop of approximately 90%, leaving hotels, restaurants and other establishments empty.
Traders in the region suffered particularly severe consequences, with a 53% drop in sales. This situation directly affects local businesses and the jobs that depend on visitor flow.
The migratory crisis in Ceuta thus generated a negative chain effect on the entire economy of the territory, with numbers that demonstrate the magnitude of the economic disaster caused by this episode.
