Arialis Martinez won the bronze medal in the 100 meters event during the first day of athletics competitions at the Mediterranean Games. The Portuguese sprinter achieved third place on the podium, thus guaranteeing the 21st medal for Portugal in these games.

On the same day of competitions, Patrícia Silva participated in the 5000 meters event, finishing the race in fourth place. Despite not reaching the podium, the Portuguese athlete achieved a significant result in her event.
