The death toll in Nepal exceeded 800 following the earthquake that hit the country. The earthquake caused massive destruction in several regions of Nepali territory.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon had initially reported six Portuguese nationals missing following the disaster. Portuguese diplomatic authorities were monitoring the situation of these citizens.
Three of these six Portuguese nationals have since been found alive, which brought some relief after the period of uncertainty. Searches for the remaining individuals continue to be carried out.
The Nepali government now faces the challenge of coordinating rescue and assistance operations for the thousands of people affected by the earthquake.
