The JPP party (Together for the People) is continuing a working visit to Jersey, in the Channel Islands, where it has maintained contacts with the Madeiran community and local institutions. The party, of Madeiran political origin, is using this trip to strengthen ties with Portuguese emigrants on the island.
Élvio Sousa, secretary-general of JPP, stated that "a Madeiran is always a Madeiran, wherever they are", emphasising the importance of the connection between Madeira and its emigrants around the world. The party estimates that there are approximately 12,000 Madeirans residing in Jersey.
During the visit, Élvio Sousa praised what he described as the "democratic and collaborative pluralism" found in Jersey, considering that this model should serve as an example. This position reflects JPP's perspective on governance and institutional relations.
The trip to Jersey is part of the party's strategy to maintain proximity with Madeiran communities abroad and to gain firsthand knowledge of the realities experienced by these emigrants, thereby strengthening the connection between the autonomous region and its diaspora.
