The deputy from CHEGA Francisco Gomes formally questioned the Minister of National Defense about an alleged trip by Rubina Leal, president of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in an EH101 Merlin helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force. The trip allegedly occurred on August 15th, between Madeira and Porto Santo.
The question was officially submitted by the parliamentarian to the Defense ministry, demanding clarification on the circumstances that would have allowed the regional political leader to use a military aircraft for a journey of an apparently personal or institutional nature.
This is not the first time there has been controversy related to the use of military resources by political figures. The case raises questions about the rules and protocols governing the use of Armed Forces equipment by entities external to the Defense Ministry.
Francisco Gomes, through this parliamentary initiative, intends to obtain formal answers about the legality and appropriateness of this alleged use of the military helicopter, at a time when the official position of the Defense Ministry on the matter is awaited.
