For years, photographs of Britney Spears at fan meet-and-greets circulated on social media accompanied by comments about her tense or seemingly uncomfortable expression. In an Instagram post, the singer herself brought a new context to that period, revealing that she was "painfully shy" and that exposure to large groups of people caused physical reactions before the meet-and-greets.
Britney said she would even shake and have asthma attacks when she needed to receive more than ten people. According to her, Felicia Culotta, the assistant who accompanied her at the beginning of her career, could perceive the fear in her eyes during these moments.
The singer also described the feeling of participating in those meet-and-greets, stating: "I felt like a robot." In another part of the post, Britney said she had lost the sensitivity of her own soul during that period of her life.
