The secretary-general of JPP, Élvio Sousa, is on a working visit to Jersey, where he has been in contact with the Madeiran community and local institutions. During the visit, Élvio Sousa stated that "a Madeiran is always a Madeiran, wherever they are," emphasizing the importance of maintaining ties with their homeland.
According to Élvio Sousa, there are approximately 12,000 Madeirans living in Jersey. The JPP leader explained that the objective of the visit is to learn about the challenges faced by this community, listen to their concerns, and ensure that those who are far away continue to feel part of their land.
The JPP official was received by the mayor of St Helier, thus reinforcing the institutional ties between the party and the local authorities of Jersey during this trip.
