Carlos Mármol, from Guayaquil: Found an Open Door to the Future in Leiria

Região de Leiria30 August 2026 at 14:30

Carlos Mármol is originally from Guayaquil, a city in Ecuador, and decided to look for study opportunities in Europe. When this possibility arose, the young Ecuadorian was attracted by the quiet lifestyle and the security that Portugal offers to foreign students.

The city chosen by Carlos to continue his studies was Leiria, in Portugal. The decision to settle in this Portuguese city represented for him an open door to the future, allowing him to build new academic and personal perspectives outside his country of origin.

The choice of Leiria reflects the growing trend of South American students choosing Portugal as a study destination in Europe, benefiting from the cultural proximity to Portuguese-speaking countries and the favorable conditions that the country provides.

Iran: Leader calls on Muslim countries to unite against US and Israel

Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, called on Muslim countries to unite against the United States and Israel, in a written message cited by AFP. Khamenei, who succeeded his father who died in February, stated that the solution to the problems of the Muslim Umma lies in unity and cooperation, designating the US and Israel as the "true enemy" of all Muslim countries. In response to the Israeli-American offensive, Iran attacked countries allied with Washington in the region and blocked the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil circulates, generating fears of a global economic crisis. Tehran faces a US naval blockade and hardened sanctions on Monday, with Khamenei also calling for the progressive "de-dollarization" of the Iranian economy.
