The PSD defends a new tourism model for Albufeira, arguing that the Algarve city needs to "reinvent" itself to attract other types of visitors. The party's position comes following a hit-and-run incident on Oura street, which was reportedly related to security problems in the tourist area.
The party believes that Albufeira should diversify its tourism offering, moving away from the current model which, according to the social democrats, has been generating tensions in the city. The defense of higher quality tourism with a lower negative impact emerges as an alternative to the current practices of the sector in the region.
The PSD initiative comes at a time when several areas of the Algarve are facing challenges related to tourism overcrowding. Albufeira, as one of the main destinations in the region, has been particularly affected by these problems.
