Rúben Medeiros became the first Azorean, coming from the Police Officers Training Course, to hold the position of second Regional Commander of the PSP in the Azores. His appointment represents a continuation of the family tradition within the police.

His father was a former Commander of the Traffic Station of the Police Division of Ponta Delgada, while his son is currently the Commander of the Criminal Investigation Station of the same division. This situation makes the Medeiros family a reference of continuity within the PSP in the Azores.

Rúben Medeiros stated that he felt "enormous pride" when he realized there was a continuation of the family tradition in the police institution. His appointment marks a significant moment for the Azorean representation in the regional commands of the PSP.
