A violent conflict occurred last Tuesday at the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences (IFCS) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), resulting in completely opposing versions between the two main parties involved in the altercation.
Law student Deivid Lima claims to have been a victim of assaults and racist insults while trying to take a student to the police station who was wearing a shirt with alleged Nazi apologia.
History student Diego Costa Araújo denies the accusations and claims he was wearing a shirt from an openly antinazi punk band. He alleges he suffered an attempted homicide after being beaten by dozens of people.
The rector of UFRJ issued an official statement affirming that the university does not accept Nazism, anti-Semitism, or any form of discrimination, but also repudiates violence practiced against any person.
