Carlos Eduardo Cerqueira, 52, a volleyball professor, died this Saturday after being hospitalized in a coma for more than two months following an assault in downtown Rio de Janeiro. He was found seriously injured on June 24, when he was leaving home for work. Carlos Eduardo suffered a head trauma and remained hospitalized for 65 days in the ICU at Hospital Municipal Souza Aguiar, where management confirmed the death this Saturday.
Security camera footage captured the moment when the professor appears lying on the ground while being assaulted by a man. The suspect has not yet been identified by police. The case is being investigated by the 1st Police Station (Praça Mauá).
With Carlos Eduardo's death, the family is demanding answers from the Civil Police and asking for help identifying the perpetrator. The professor leaves behind three children.
