The Iniciativa Liberal (IL) presented a proposal to reform the pension system that includes an individual "capitalization" component. The announcement was made by Mariana Leitão during the party's rentrée speech, which marks the beginning of political activity after the pause period.
The proposal aims to reform the current Portuguese pension system, introducing an individual capitalization mechanism. This type of system implies that each worker contributes to an individual account that will be used to finance their own retirement, in contrast to the current pay-as-you-go system, where the contributions of active workers finance the pensions of retirees.
The Iniciativa Liberal's rentrée speech focused on the middle class as the main focus of its political proposals. This choice reflects the party's strategy to position itself as a defender of a specific segment of the Portuguese population.
The moment of the announcement was also marked by attacks on the Government, in an opposition stance that characterizes Iniciativa Liberal's performance in the Portuguese political scenario. The party leader took the opportunity to criticize government management, simultaneously presenting political alternatives for the country.
