The president of Iniciativa Liberal (IL), Leitão, denounced the "fairy tales" he attributed to Luís Montenegro during the party's rentrée in Quarteira. In his criticism of the Prime Minister, Leitão questioned the promises made by the Government and challenged IL to implement the reformism Montenegro promised but did not carry out.
IL also directed criticism at the Executive's performance, considering that the Government's "big measure" boils down to a sovereign wealth fund. This position reflects the liberal party's dissatisfaction with the government's strategy and with the lack of structural reforms that Leitão believes are necessary.
In the rentrée speech in Quarteira, Leitão winked at the middle class, suggesting that this population group has been the target of political attention that does not correspond to concrete measures. This strategy aims to position IL as an alternative for the middle class interests, often considered decisive in electoral contexts.
The event in Quarteira marked the political rentrée of Iniciativa Liberal, at a time when the party seeks to consolidate its position in the Portuguese political spectrum and differentiate itself from the promises that Leitão considers empty from the current Government.
