A baby was born in the early hours of Friday, August 28, inside an ambulance of the Voluntary Firefighters of Monforte, during the transport of the mother to the Hospital do Espírito Santo in Évora.
The birth occurred at 06:17, when the ambulance was heading towards the hospital unit, according to information released by the Monforte Firefighters.
The mother was being transported to the hospital when the baby decided to be born before reaching the destination, forcing the firefighters to assist with the birth inside the ambulance.
The case is part of a broader context of out-of-hospital births, which have been increasing and represent logistical and clinical challenges for emergency medical services.
