A mosquito fossil used in the movie "Jurassic Park," the 1993 classic directed by Steven Spielberg, was sold for US$ 403.2 thousand, equivalent to approximately R$ 2.1 million, during an auction held in Los Angeles. The piece, which appears in the iconic opening scene of the film, was offered publicly for the first time by the Propstore auction house, specialized in selling objects from film productions.
The item became the most expensive sold on the first day of the Summer Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, held on Wednesday. According to the auction house's description, characteristics such as the bubbles, the mosquito's position, and the piece's pattern allow it to be associated with the one seen in close-up during the "Mano de Dios" mine sequence.
Despite looking like a piece of fossilized amber, the object is actually made of resin. The piece was used in the production of the film that revolutionized special effects and became one of the biggest box office successes in cinema history.
