President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, candidate for re-election, defended gender equality in management positions in the federal government during an event held in Belo Horizonte this Saturday. Lula stated that women currently occupy 38% of management positions and declared that this number needs to increase to at least 50%.
The event featured the participation of female ministers and various candidates from the PT candidate's coalition. Lula highlighted the contradiction of women being the majority in Brazilian society but still being a minority in the Legislature, questioning why they don't have a majority in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
The president made an invitation to female voters to vote for women, arguing that if all women voted for women, female representation would be much greater. Lula also performed a symbolic gesture during the event, singing a portion of the song "Como é grande o meu amor por você" by Roberto Carlos, drawing the attention of the participants.
