From September 1st, taxis will be able to operate as TVDE (Transport in Non-Designated Vehicles), with the entry into force of a new law that changes the regime of these services.
This change brings the two road passenger transport regimes closer together, which until now had different rules. The legislation aims to harmonize the operating conditions between traditional taxis and transport services through digital platforms.
The taxi sector is against this change, contesting the new regulation. Professionals in the sector argue that the measure may harm their activity and the conditions of competition in the transport market.
The new law represents one of the biggest changes in the transport sector in Portugal, affecting both traditional operators and TVDE platforms operating in the country.
