Iran's president, Masoud Pezeshkian, publicly acknowledged that sanctions imposed by the United States harm the Iranian economy. This admission contrasts with statements made just days earlier, when he had assured that American measures would not accomplish anything against the country.
In an interview with Iranian state television on Friday night, Pezeshkian said some people claim sanctions have no effect at all, but admitted he doesn't know what to tell these people. He also declared that Iran is in a state of war and that the country needs to accept the conditions of this situation.
The Iranian president's statements refer to the open conflict following the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel on February 28, for which no solution has yet been found. On Monday, the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, presented a report on the matter.
