New dam in sight for Algarve. Cost around 200 million euros

The project for a new dam in the Algarve will go into public consultation starting Monday, August 31. The infrastructure will be built in the Foupana river and will cover an area of the municipalities of Alcoutim and Castro Marim.

The estimated cost for the completion of this work is between 150 and 200 million euros, representing a significant investment for the Algarve region.

The new dam aims to reinforce water storage in the southern region of the country, responding to the water needs of the Algarve, an area frequently affected by drought periods.

A woman in Spain received for more than two years part of her ex-husband's widow's pension, after the National Social Security Institute granted her that right in 2016. However, when the second wife claimed and obtained in court the full pension, Social Security demanded the return of €12,706.87. Although the woman claimed to have acted in good faith and correctly communicated her situation, the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia confirmed that the legal obligation to return improperly received benefits remains, even when the error was the organization's own. The court reduced the initial amount of €16,869.68, eliminating interest and surcharges that Social Security failed to justify.
