Vatican: Pope sends financial aid to Caritas Nepal

Pope Leo XIV sent financial aid to Caritas Nepal through the Dicastery for Charity Service, to address the primary needs of the population affected by the floods. The Vatican dicastery announced that this is a first aid measure, following the example of other previous interventions by the Holy Father.
The prefect of the Dicastery for Charity Service, Archbishop Luis Marín de San Martín, stated that this aid represents a rapid and concrete sign to convey to the most vulnerable the closeness and tenderness of the Pope, functioning as a presence of the Church accompanying and supporting the victims.
On Wednesday, August 26, the Pope sent a telegram expressing his consternation at the loss of lives and the devastation caused by the flash floods in Nepal.

Cidade do Vaticano, 29 ago 2026 (Ecclesia) – O Papa Leão XIV enviou ajuda financeira à Cáritas do Nepal através do Dicastério para o Serviço da Caridade, para ajudar nas “necessidades primárias da população”.
“Trata-se de uma primeira ajuda que o Santo Padre, como noutras ocasiões, quis enviar para atender às necessidades primárias da população”, afirmou o prefeito do Dicastério para o Serviço da Caridade, o arcebispo Luis Marín de San Martín, cidado pelo portal de notícias do Vaticano.
D. Luís Martín acrescenta que “é um sinal rápido e concreto para transmitir, sobretudo aos mais vulneráveis, a proximidade e a ternura do Santo Padre, como uma presença da Igreja que os acompanha e sustenta”.
Na quarta-feira, dia 26 de agosto, o Papa enviou um telegrama expressando a proximidade às vítimas das inundações e afirmando a sua consternação “ao saber da perda de vidas e da devastação causadas pelas inundações repentinas”.
