Notícias Portugal29 August 2026 at 11:53

The mid-season, between September and October, emerges as a window of opportunity for Spanish travelers looking for international getaways at more affordable prices. According to KAYAK data, there was a significant increase in searches for distant destinations like Osaka, Shanghai and Lima, with Osaka registering an 80% growth in flight searches. Searches for international hotels increased by 16% compared to summer and 7% compared to the same period last year, reflecting a growing interest in destinations outside Spain, especially in Africa, North America and the Caribbean.

With the end of summer, Spanish travelers' preferences are shifting. Searches for hotels with swimming pools dropped 24% compared to the summer season, indicating a transition to more cultural and disconnection experiences. Flight prices dropped 25% compared to summer months, while prices for flights to international destinations fell by up to 42%, making exploration of new horizons more affordable.

Destinations with the biggest price drops include Bucharest, New York and Tirana, with reductions reaching 47% compared to summer months. The cities that continue to lead searches are traditional destinations like Paris, Rome and London. Natalia Diez-Rivas, KAYAK's Commercial Director for Europe, states that October 11th is the most economical day to check into an international hotel, with an average price of €86 per night.

KAYAK recommends using tools such as price alerts so travelers can monitor fare fluctuations and take advantage of the best deals. The mid-season presents itself not only as an opportunity for international getaways at reduced costs, but also as an ideal moment to explore new cultures and destinations with greater flexibility in travel dates.

Will you receive the same if you request retirement with 40 or 48 years of contributions? See the impact on your pension

The article analyzes the differences between retiring with 40 or 48 years of contributions in Portugal, clarifying that years of contribution above 40 do not count just as three months each, but rather allow reducing the personal retirement age by four months for each complete year. With 40 years of contributions, it is possible to access early retirement through flexibility at age 60, but leaving before the personal retirement age implies penalties of 0.5% for each month of anticipation. With 48 years of contributions and at least 60 years, there is access to early pension without penalty under the very long careers regime. The pension value depends on various factors, including the best years of remuneration, and the calculation considers only up to 40 years of contributory career, although additional years can replace periods with lower salaries. Social Security recommends simulation before making any decision.
