Ten men detained for smuggling in GNR operation in Vila do Bispo

GNR military personnel detained ten men for circulation smuggling in the early hours of Friday in Vila do Bispo, in the Algarve. The suspects, aged between 19 and 46, were detected during movements considered suspicious by elements of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Portimão. The operation had the reinforcement of the Intervention Detachment of Faro and the Coastal and Border Control Unit.
The military personnel intercepted two light goods vehicles transporting fuel and various logistical support material. In the operation, the two vehicles were seized, 214 jerrycans of fuel with a capacity of 20 liters each, ten five-liter containers of oil for boat engines, two containers with components for engine maintenance, a surveillance camera with solar panel, a water pump and four bags with food products and beverages.
According to the Territorial Command of Faro of the GNR, all the seized material would be destined for the supply and logistical support of a vessel associated with drug trafficking. The arrests were made for the crime of circulation smuggling.
Militares da GNR detiveram dez homens por contrabando de circulação, na madrugada de sexta-feira, em Vila do Bispo, depois de intercetarem material que seria usado no abastecimento e apoio logístico de uma embarcação associada ao tráfico de estupefacientes.
Os suspeitos, com idades entre os 19 e os 46 anos, foram detetados durante movimentações consideradas suspeitas por elementos do Núcleo de Investigação Criminal de Portimão.
Na sequência da intervenção, os militares abordaram duas viaturas ligeiras de mercadorias nas quais estavam a ser transportados combustível e diverso material.
GNR apreendeu 214 jerricãs de combustível
Durante a operação, a Guarda Nacional Republicana apreendeu as duas viaturas e 214 jerricãs de combustível, cada um com capacidade para 20 litros.
Foram igualmente apreendidos dez bidões de óleo para motores de embarcações, com cinco litros cada, e dois bidões com componentes destinados à manutenção de motores.
Entre o material encontrado pelas autoridades estava ainda uma câmara de videovigilância equipada com painel solar, uma bomba de água e quatro sacos com géneros alimentares e bebidas.
Segundo o Comando Territorial de Faro da GNR, o combustível e os restantes artigos seriam destinados ao abastecimento e apoio logístico de uma embarcação associada ao tráfico de estupefacientes.

Operação teve reforço de unidades especializadas
A operação contou com o reforço do Destacamento de Intervenção de Faro e da Unidade de Controlo Costeiro e de Fronteiras.
As detenções foram efetuadas pelo crime de contrabando de circulação.
