Filipe Sousa Demands Solution for Abandonment of Former Educational Center in Santo da Serra

SAPO Notícias29 August 2026 at 10:11

JPP deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, Filipe Sousa, formally questioned the Minister of Justice about the state of abandonment and degradation of the former Educational Center of Madeira, located in Santo da Serra. The politician raised the question about what is being done to resolve the situation of that infrastructure.

The infrastructure cost approximately 10 million euros to public coffers and operated for approximately three years. Since 2013, the Educational Center of Madeira has been closed, having been left abandoned for more than a decade.

Filipe Sousa demanded a solution to the problem, warning about the state of degradation in which the infrastructure finds itself. The former Educational Center of Madeira was one of the facilities that had a high cost for taxpayers, but ended up closing without an alternative use having been found for the space.
