The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday that the USA closed an agreement with Venezuela to take control of 65 billion barrels of the South American country's oil reserves. Trump described the transaction as the "biggest oil deal in world history," emphasizing that this "historic" negotiation more than doubles the United States' oil reserves.
According to Trump's post on the Truth Social platform, which he owns himself, the agreement was negotiated by the American diplomatic and security team, specifically by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. On the Venezuelan side, the negotiation was conducted by Venezuela's interim President, Delcy Rodríguez.
