This electric car can produce 400 kWh per year through the solar roof

SAPO Notícias29 August 2026 at 10:00

The Chinese brand Hongqi developed an electric car with a solar roof capable of producing 400 kWh per year. The goal is to transform the glass surface of panoramic roofs, which have become practically mandatory in modern electric cars, into something more useful than just an aesthetic feature.

The company wants to take advantage of the large glass area available to capture solar energy and convert it into electricity. This solution would allow electric vehicle owners to obtain an additional source of renewable energy during daily use.

The panoramic roof is a growing trend in the latest electric automobiles, but until now it functioned mainly as a design and comfort element. Hongqi's innovation represents a paradigm shift by integrating solar energy capture directly into the vehicle's structure.

With this technology, the Chinese brand positions itself at the forefront of integrating renewable energy into electric vehicles, offering consumers a way to reduce dependence on external energy sources and increase the range of their cars.
