Massacre of three thousand people: Rwandan citizen sentenced to life imprisonment in the Netherlands for genocide

SOL28 August 2026 at 12:33

A Rwandan citizen named Eugene N. was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Netherlands for genocide. The court in The Hague considered it proven that he participated in the massacre of approximately three thousand people.

The court also decided that Eugene N. was responsible for the looting and destruction of homes during the wave of violence in Rwanda in 1994. The crimes occurred in the context of the genocide that devastated the country during that period.

This conviction represents one of the genocide cases tried outside Rwanda, demonstrating the international effort to hold accountable those responsible for the crimes committed during the genocide, which resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of people.
