Former Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno was convicted of corruption crimes. The verdict was read during a hearing in which Moreno was present.
Moreno was seated in a wheelchair during the reading of the verdict, due to a physical disability that prevents him from walking.
The former Ecuadorian leader will serve his sentence under house arrest, not being required to remain in a conventional prison.
The case involves corruption crimes committed during Moreno's term as president of Ecuador, which ran from 2017 to 2021.
