Sofia collected on the President's tennis game promise at Agonia

Sofia Ferreira da Silva, a 15-year-old from Viana do Castelo, passionate about politics and tennis, decided to interview some presidential candidates before this year's elections. She managed to interview Luís Marques Mendes at Natário bakery and António José Seguro at the Sá de Miranda Theater. With Seguro, there was a promise: if he won the elections, the two would play a tennis match together.

Months later, during the Romaria d'Agonia, Sofia met the President of the Republic and made sure to remind him of the commitment. The young woman said she was at the top of the Avenue watching the parade and, when the procession passed, she went down to try her luck and managed to talk to him. Seguro did not shy away and it was agreed that they will schedule the game as soon as the young woman recovers from a foot injury.

Sofia practices high-performance tennis at the Clube de Ténis de Viana and dreams of reaching the professional circuit. The young woman admits, however, having other goals for the future, between diplomacy and national politics. For now, the priority is tennis and, along the way, fulfilling the presidential promise. The location of the game has not yet been defined, but Sofia already knows where she would like it to happen: in Viana.
