New European funds model threatens Madeira and Azores

dnoticias.pt29 August 2026 at 07:00

A new European funds model puts at risk the financial autonomy of Madeira and the Azores by providing for the merging into a single national envelope of the support currently managed autonomously by these autonomous regions. The future rules raise fears of greater control by the central State, less regional decision-making power and possible penalisation of local companies, both small and large. PS MPs have already demanded answers and guarantees from the Republic's Government on this matter.

Dodging the Vorcaro topic, ambiguity about ballot boxes, Eduardo's mistake: the interview of Flavio Bolsonaro to Globo in seven points

In the interview on TV Globo during the series of question-and-answer sessions with Presidential candidates, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) dodged questions about banker Daniel Vorcaro's financing of a film in homage to his father Jair Bolsonaro, downplayed the January 8 coup attempt, shifted responsibility for the Banco Master case to Lula, and was ambiguous about electronic voting machines, saying he will respect the election results, but without confirming whether he would maintain that stance in case of defeat. He also tried to distance himself from the US tariff hikes, counting on the support of his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro.

There are approximately 160 thousand patients registered at health centers in Portugal who are not entitled to a family doctor, being considered "not eligible" either because they live outside the country or because they have not contacted the NHS in the last five years. The new rules of the National Patient Registry (RNU) have changed the calculation basis, thereby reducing the number of patients without an assigned family doctor.

In the hottest summer in history, air conditioning stars in a dispute between right and left in France, understand

In France, air conditioning has become a symbol of an ideological dispute between right and left amid the country's hottest summer on record. While conservative politicians advocate for installing air conditioning units in public schools as a measure to protect against extreme heat, left-wing lawmakers oppose the idea, generating an intense debate about what public policies the nation should adopt to address the effects of increasingly intense heat waves linked to global warming. The appliance, which for years was treated with caution in French culture due to environmental and energy consumption concerns, is now at the center of a political battle that reflects broader divisions over the role of the State and the response to climate change.
