Number of dead rises to 626 and missing reaches 2,478 after avalanche and floods in Nepal

The number of dead after Wednesday's (26th) mud avalanche that caused floods on the border between China and Nepal rose to 626, according to local police informed to the Reuters agency in the early hours of this Saturday (29th). Seven people have already been confirmed dead in Tibet, also according to the Chinese agency Xinhua.

The missing already reach 2,478, with 1,924 on the Nepalese side and 554 on the Tibetan side. Nepal's disaster agency estimates that 517 are foreigners – tourists or workers from other countries with temporary visas. Chinese authorities put the number of foreigners who were in Chinese territory but were not located at 260. In total, 777 citizens from other countries have not been found so far.

Although over 3,700 people have been rescued in Nepal so far, the Red Cross believes that at least 93,000 people have been affected by the tragedy. A Chinese rescue team reached the border complex between the two countries on Friday (28th) to assist in the operations.

Authorities intensify fight against drug trafficking in Beira Interior

Security forces — PJ, GNR and PSP — intensified the fight against drug trafficking in Beira Interior, with more than two dozen operations in the last 12 months resulting in over 30 arrests. The PJ in Guarda arrested a suspect in the act of preparing to sell hashish, seizing approximately 210 doses. A large-scale operation by the PJ resulted in the arrest of 20 people linked to introducing drugs into prisons.
