Cycling to the train will become easier: Lisbon prepares 57 new bike shelters

The Metropolitan Area of Lisbon will create a network of 57 new bike shelters at major public transport interfaces. The project, called Navegante BICI, will be available from 2027 and aims to make life easier for those who combine cycling with public transport, such as trains, metro and buses.

The network will be accessible to Navegante pass users, thus integrating with the existing transport system. The goal is to enable citizens to park their bikes securely before continuing by public transport.

The initiative responds to a growing need from people who choose to leave their car at home and use their bike on the daily commute to work. However, finding safe places to park bikes at stations has been a constant challenge.

The news was reported by the newspaper Público, highlighting it as a measure to promote intermodality and encourage the use of more sustainable transport means in the Lisbon region.
